The canning line is a facility of which Gateway is particularly proud. Able to handle both carbonated and non-carbonated filling, the line can be used to fill the following size cans:
- 200ml
- 250ml
- 275ml and
- 330ml.
This includes the latest offering from Bevcan, the two-piece 200ml slim-line can in aluminium (above), which gives any product a sophisticated look.
The canning line currently produces not only iced tea, energy drinks, fruit juices and protein drinks, but also a particular speciality of Gateway’s – tomato juices and tomato cocktails.
For several reasons, the production of canned tomato drinks is particularly tricky – especially if the end product must be preservative-free. Through a carefully-controlled double-pasteurisation process, Gateway continually ensures that many of the tomato-juice and tomato cocktail cans found on supermarket shelves arrive there problem- and preservative-free.
Note to Bill: Can we say Gateway is one of only two facilities in Southern Africa able to handle tomato juice in cans?
Gateway’s particular expertise with tomato products has led to one of South Africa’s major pizza chains choosing the company to fill 3kg catering-size tins with its private recipe pizza topping. This has been so successful, the product is now being regularly exported to the chain’s overseas outlets.
